NetDrive on macOS Ventura tops out at version 3.17 — here's what still works for mounting Google Drive, S3, and other clouds, and how to check your build.
A reader on macOS Ventura downloads NetDrive from the site, installs it, and either the app won’t launch or a drive that used to mount fine suddenly refuses to connect. That’s not a bug — it’s a version ceiling. NetDrive 3.18 and later require macOS 14 Sonoma or newer, which caps Ventura (macOS 13) users at NetDrive 3.17. Where Ventura Sits in NetDrive’s macOS Support Matrix
NetDrive’s macOS compatibility is tied to specific version ranges, not a single “latest macOS” requirement. macOS 13 Ventura tops out at NetDrive 3.17. macOS 14 Sonoma is the minimum for NetDrive 3.18 and everything after it, including the current 3.19.7 release from April 2026, which added macOS 26 Tahoe certification. If you’re still on Ventura, none of that 3.18+ line will run — the installer either blocks the install or the app refuses to start after a clean install attempt.
This isn’t unique to Ventura. Earlier macOS versions have their own ceilings too: 10.10 Yosemite maxed out at NetDrive 3.8, while 10.11 El Capitan through 10.14 Mojave can run any 3.x build (3.8 or later recommended). Ventura simply sits one step behind the current Sonoma-and-up baseline, which matters if you manage several Macs at different OS versions and need to know which installer goes where.
What NetDrive 3.17 Still Delivers on Ventura
Being capped at 3.17 doesn’t mean a stripped-down app. On Ventura you still get all four of NetDrive’s mount types — network drive, read-only drive, local disk, and removable drive (toggleable since 3.7.687) — plus macOS-specific touches like Spotlight search recognizing the mounted drive type (3.16.667), full dark mode support (3.8.921), and the menu bar controls for managing mounts without opening a Finder window (3.3.349). Apple Silicon Macs get a native binary, not a Rosetta-translated one, a feature NetDrive has shipped since version 3.14.309 in December 2020.
Provider coverage on 3.17 is broad: Google Drive, OneDrive and OneDrive for Business, Dropbox and Dropbox Business, Box, pCloud, Mega, Yandex Disk, SharePoint, Amazon S3 and S3-compatible services like Wasabi, Backblaze B2, Google Cloud Storage, Azure Blob and Azure File Storage, MinIO, OpenStack Swift, Tencent Cloud, Alibaba Cloud, and the standard WebDAV, FTP, and SFTP protocols. The one gap: the five newest providers — Koofr, Filen, Files.com, ImageKit, and OpenDrive — ship in a build newer than 3.17 and require Sonoma or later, so Ventura users won’t see them in the Add Drive list yet.
Installing 3.17 and Confirming Your Setup
- Download the macOS installer from netdrive.net/download/mac/ and run the DMG.
- Approve the system extension when macOS prompts you, under System Settings → Privacy & Security. NetDrive can’t create mount points until this is allowed, and the prompt appears on first launch after install.
- Check your installed version from the menu bar icon’s About panel. If you expected the newest release and instead see a 3.17.x build number, that’s Ventura’s ceiling working as intended — not a failed download.
- Mount a drive and confirm it’s reachable in Finder. A drive letter equivalent (Finder mount point) that browses normally means the extension was approved correctly.
If you want the 3.19.7-era improvements — automatic S3 region detection, the latest Google Photos handling, or Tahoe certification — the only path is upgrading macOS to Sonoma or later first, then installing the current NetDrive build.
